Our Professionals
Meet The Crew

Rúnar Karlsson
Rúnar is the founder of our company. The real deal outdoorsman and the multitool you strive to be. The best source of local knowledge who knows every crack, valley, and summit in the mountains and fjords around. Who can say they’ve ice climbed Dynjandi for the challenge and also used that same skill to rescue a missing dog from the icy tops of the surrounding mountains here in Ísafjörður.
Nanný Guðmundsdóttir
Nanný is the driving force and the heart of the company. She was born in Ísafjörður and has lived there most of her life. Her hobbies include cycling, skiing and just being outdoors breathing in the fresh mountain air of the Westfjords. She studied to become a kindergarten teacher, so she has a good knowledge on how to manage a diverse group of people and bring us all together. She joined the company in 2012.

Regína Sif Rúnarsdóttir
Personable and calming, Regína will ease your concerns that may arise. Consistently making life better for travellers and guides alike, you can’t put value on human kindness. Whether it’s a problem-solving email, or the plants that brighten up the office when you first step into our cozy space. She’s up for a chat, but the question is, are you? Oh yeah, and that problem you had…not so impossible huh?
Arna María Arnardóttir
As local as you can get, but will keep you guessing with her charming British accent. A valued member of the office and behind the scenes team, Arna will ensure that you can spend more time taking it easy. Hakuna Matata!

Stjáni (Kristján R Guðmundsson)
Stjáni is our go-to captain and firmly believes that life is better on a boat. He’ll keep you safe and sound as we cruise through the fjords, whatever the conditions. He never gets tired of the sea, and when he’s not out on the water with us, you’ll likely find him exploring the fjords on his own sailboat or heading out on a fishing trip. Stjáni also loves a good prank, but don’t worry — his favourite targets are always the guides!
Sigrún Auðardóttir
Sigrún is a true local, with cross-country skis under her feet in winter and a paddle in hand as she explores the fjords in summer. One of the strongest and most easygoing spirits on our team, she brings great energy, a relaxed attitude, and plenty of fun wherever she goes. These days, she occasionally joins us for some of our high-profile tours to escape the exciting (boring!) world of medical engineering and get back to what she loves most: the outdoors!

Alex Tyas
Born and raised in England, Alex found her way to Iceland for her master’s degree in coastal and marine management. Alex is the office master and spends her free time underwater and finishing her Phd in marine archaeology.
Jake Thompson
Jake’s born in Rome, lived in London and Dhaka, but left all for open air life in Ísafjörður. He has been with us for the last 4 seasons and quickly became a big part of the Borea family. His positive attitude and jokes will make you fall in love with the geology and flora on our hiking tours. Geology and botany will become your new guilty pleasures if it’s not already and you’ll be convinced to settle here too!

Erla Jóhannsdóttir
An adventurous spirit at heart, Erla has travelled far and wide, from the remote island of Réunion to living in isolation in Svalbard. These days, she’s settled in Ísafjörður with her husband, Steve, and their two boys. With a phone in one hand and a keyboard in the other, she works her magic behind the scenes to turn your travel dreams into reality. Erla is the kind of person you definitely want on your team — a true keeper!
Lukáš Polách
Lukáš feels equally at home in the mountains and on the water, always on the lookout for new terrain to ski or surf. During winter, you’ll usually find him skiing the mountains around us or catching waves in the freezing waters near his hometown of Flateyri. As our lead guide, he’s always ready for the next adventure. And as the years go by, he’s also decided to add a bus-driving licence to his list of skills. You never know when it might come in handy — especially when the knees start giving in!

Nicole Sühring
Originally from Germany, Nicole moved to Iceland to study and quickly developed a passion for the country’s stunning scenery and the thrill of surfing in cold, isolated areas. Today, our returning guide resides in Flateyri, where she runs an ocean adventure center. As a seasoned guide, Nicole is the ideal person to accompany you both on land and on the water. Either way, you are guaranteed a great adventure.
