Local events for 2007

We have made an effort to tie our trip schedules to local events in the Isafjordur area. These can be local festivals, sports events etc. We try to encourage our guests to extend their stay in Iceland and participate in other activities before or after our trips. Our good friends at WEST TOURS (Vesturferðir) are more than happy to assist you with travel or hotel bookings all over Iceland. Here is a list of some of the local events……

April 1-9th Easter Ski Week in Isafjordur. For decades the locals have celebrated easter by enjoying a healthy mix of outdoor activities and culture. Ski all day in the mountains and attend a classical concert in the church at night…

April 7th ‘Aldrei for eg sudur’ music festival in Isafjordur. Mugison and Papamug came up with the idea of this rock festival where they would mix local talent with more famous acts. This turned out to be huge success and is definetely something you don´t want to miss.

April 29th Fossavatn Ski Marathon. One of the oldest running sports events in the country. Since 1935 hardy cross-country skiers have raced a 22 km course in the mountains. Recently more options have been added and now you can race 7, 10, 20 or 50 km classic style. This is now a true family activity with more and more international visitors competing every year.

July 19-22nd Outdoor Creatures Festival of outdoor activities is held every summer in Isafjordur. This ties together hikes, sailing, kayaking and other outdoor activities for everyone. Last year we had a kite-surfing course, mountain bike tours, camp fires etc.

August 4-5th Swamp Soccer. A great event ‘imported’ from Finland. The European Swamp Soccer Championships will be held in the first weekend of August. See this great article about this years event in the Reykjavik Grapevine.

Of course there are all kinds of other things going on throughout the summer: local harbour festivals in the neighbouring communities, Act Alone theater festival in Isafjordur etc etc.

Make sure to check in frequently as we will keep an updated list on this site.
